Japanese Self Defense Pole

sasumata This is an interesting self defense weapon used in Japan called a
Sasumata.
Sasumatas are hanging all over Japanese school buildings and are used to hold or pin a “bad guy” to the wall or floor.  So if someone comes at you with a knife you can keep your distance.  I think this is  a very practical self defense weapon but has some limitations.

1. Gun: Well if the bad guy has a gun you can pin him all you want while he shoots fish in a barrel.  I don’t think guns are legal in Japan so they are probably fine.

2. If it’s in a school buidling a bunch of 5th graders are unlikely strong enough to pin a grown man that’s crazy.  Unless he’s just a giant sissy.

sasumataIf any readers know of any other cool self defense weapons like this in foreign countries let me know and I’ll post it on the site.
